Dar al-Hikmah Library: Enlightening the Journey to Legal Harmony at the 5th International Conference

The 5th International Conference on Harmonisation of Shari’ah and Civil Law, organized by the Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyyah of Laws (AIKOL), convened at the Senate Hall of the International Islamic University Malaysia on 1 August 2023. The conference, guided by the theme ‘Harmonising the Shari’ah and Civil Law: Progress and Achievements, brought together legal scholars, practitioners, and policymakers from around the world to explore the dynamic relationship between these two legal systems.

The prestigious event was officiated by YBrs. Dr. Muhammad Razak bin Idris, Political Secretary of YB Senator Dato’ Setia Dr. Haji Mohd Na’im bin Mokhtar, the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs), representing him. The presence of such esteemed figures underscored the importance of the conference’s agenda, which aimed to foster dialogue and collaboration in the field of legal harmonisation.

In conjunction with the conference, the Law Information Unit at Dar al-Hikmah Library curated an enlightening exhibition titled ‘The Collection of Harmonisation of Shari’ah and Civil Law.’ This exhibition showcased IIUM theses and publications available in Dar al-Hikmah Library, offering a comprehensive look into the wealth of knowledge and research contributions related to the harmonisation of Shari’ah and civil law.

The exhibition not only served as a valuable resource for conference attendees but also highlighted the significant role that academic research plays in advancing the field of legal harmonisation. This, in turn, reflects the library’s enduring relevance in the contemporary era as a hub of knowledge and research. Notably, the exhibition was visited by the Political Secretary of The Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs), as well as the Solicitor General of AGC Malaysia, Datuk Ahmad Terrirudin bin Mohd Salleh.
