Librarians in Malaysia celebrated their special day – Hari Pustakawan Malaysia or Malaysia Librarian’s Day – on 6 June 2020. The theme for this year’s celebration was #tetaprelevan #stayingrelevant. To commemorate such a meaningful day, for their Sembang Santai Series 9, Librarians IDEAS presented their Special Edition. Sembang Santai went live at 2.00 pm on 6 June 2020. All four moderators, Dr. Mohd. Faizal Hamzah (UM), Nurul Diana Jasni (UiTM), Amirul Firdaus Zilah (UMK) and Mohd. Ikhwan Ismail (USM), appeared together for the second time since their first joint appearance on 24 March 2020.
A total of ten panelists were presented to the audience of which nine are practicing librarians and one is a retired librarian. They were Jamilah Hassan Basri (USM), Haji Valentino Abu Bakar (UNIMAS), Dr. Nor Edzan Che Nasir (PPM), Nor Azzah Momin (USIM), Tengku Tarmizi Tengku Aziz (Perpustakaan Sultan Ismail, Majlis Bandaraya Johor Bahru), Mohd. Razif Dzulkipli (UTEM), Aimi Ihsan Zaidi (UM), Wan Ahmad Hanis Wan Yahya (Perbadanan Perpustakaan Awam Kedah), Mawar Noor Abdullah UiTM) and Dzulhailie M. Bakri (UNIMAP).
Every panellist was asked to introduced themselves as soon as the session began. This time, the session which lasted for 90 minutes, comprised of Session 1 (Sembang Pustakawan) and Session 2 (Betul-betul Santai). For Session 1, the moderators took turns asking each panel member questions such as: why did they choose the librarianship course, why did they choose to become librarians, why did they choose to work in a certain library, the difference between librarians now and then, challenging moments as a librarian, good and bad memories whilst being a librarian and tips on becoming a successful librarian. All these questions were answered in good spirit by the panellists,
For Session 2, the moderators conducted it in the form of a set of games and the panellists had to respond to the games accordingly. In closing, Nor Azzah Momin and Dr. Nor Edzan Che Nasir were asked their views on the aspirations and the future direction of the profession. The panel members and moderators then sent out their well wishes to fellow librarians. All in all, Sembang Santai was well received by the audience. Although questions and comments posted by the audience were not read out nor replied, the panelists were asked to respond to them after the live telecast. Please go to the Librarian I.D.E,A.S.
